"I predict that mobile phones will become the greatest game platform in the coming five to ten years" said Wang Feng, board chairman of the famous online game company LineKong, on the recent China Beijing International Animation - Game Industry Development Forum (translated). It sounds like a bold prediction, but is agreed by many insiders.

According to related researches, the global phone-based games reached a market share of nearly USD 16 billion in the year 2009, and took up almost 1/3 of the whole game market. Though the domestic phone games' total output value only accounts for 5% of the whole game market, Qu Haibin, vice president of Shanda Interactive Entertainment, has a very positive attitude toward such games' prospect. As he said, with the rapid progress of smart phones around the world, it's expected that the number of wireless Internet users in China will reach 800 million by 2015.

In Qu's opinion, the phone games in China are mainly trapped by platform restrictions, inconsistent standards and the non-F2P business model, but all these problems are now being solved gradually. As the smart phone industry grows, lots of phones are endowed with higher and higher capacity, and features like multi-touch, GPS and 3D are also popularized gradually. In terms of the business model, as more and more operators of the phone games serve as traffic and communication service providers, the phone games are coming closer and closers to F2P.
